Jewelry Cabinet for Wife

I finally finished the jewelry case that last Christmas I promised my wife i’d make for her. She wanted something that would hang on the wall where she could hang her earrings. I may have gotten a bit carried away. Since I spend most of the time in my workshop doing woodturning, I do not have a lot of experience working on projects like this. Without a plan, it involved a lot of “design as you go” to get things to work. A lot of ideas I started with were discarded along the way. I guess it all worked out in the end because she is really happy with it. Sorry about the pictures, but I did not really have a good place to set it and take pictures. Once I’d hung it all the wall in her walk in closet there was not enough room to take a picture that shows the whole thing.

It is made primarily of poplar, with maple strips for the earring racks. The polar did not seem strong enough when cut that thin. It is finished in Minwax Golden Pecan with multiple coats on Satin Wipe-on Poly. First time I’ve ever stained anything, so that was a new experience. The back of the inside is Suede-Tex.

Nice work, but… I hope you have at least as many tools as your wife has Jewelry!

I’m a girl who likes tools – jewels not so much which I think does make my hubby happy :) – but if I had a cabinet like this I just might like jewels more LOL. This is really nice and I never would have thought it was poplar by the pictures. That stain did great as did you on this project. I’m sure your wife said it was worth the wait since Christmas!!
