The “Butcher Block Cabinet” is a mobile cabinet on wheels made from Oak with a Maple Butcher Block top. I’ve made two basic styles: One with a functional drawer and two doors in the front, and the other has a functioning drawer with a “dummy” drawer front on the back, and functional doors on both the front and back. Both have towel racks on the sides and one adjustable shelf. The photos shown in this post are of a cabinet I made for a Wedding Gift for the daughter of friends. The “Cutting List” may not be exactly right, but I’m a “Cut and Fit” guy. . . .

The Hard Rock Maple Butcher Block (1.75” x 20” x 24”):

The next project is another Butcher Block Cabinet, this time for my wife. She wants some changes: Different size, a pull-out “shelf” on the bottom as well as an adjustable shelf, 2” “legs” instead of wheels, . . . I don’t have any Maple tops and the nearest place to buy is over 200 miles away, and the shipping costs are out of sight . . . . If I had a 24” sander or planer, I might try building my own butcher block, but I don’t . . . The local home improvement store (Menard’s) carries Birch butcher blocks, so I’m going to try one. If it doesn’t work out, I’ll bite the bullet and find a maple top.

Would love to make one of these, but got no where to keep it so it’s out of the way (I’m in a pretty small house with a tiny kitchen). It looks great.

Darius: I’ve made them for folks with small kitchens – Some leave the cabinet in the middle of the room and work around it, and others wheel it around as needed.

That’s a great project. I can see a lot of use for something like that. Very nicely done!

This is an outstanding kitchen cart with butcher block top. You did a fine job on it.
