Foot stool. This was made for a contest, didnt win nothin but oh well haha. It was a fun project regardless.

The contest rules were to take a board 7 1/4” X 4’ X 3/4” and make something. Up to 25% of the finished project could be accent wood or what ever you really wanted. The board I was given was a piece of red oak. Kiaat is used for the grid and casing. The underside of the top is 1/4” baltic birch plywood for reinforcement. The legs and top are connected with cherry dowels. No mechanical fasteners were used in the project at all, only wood glue and dowels. Finish is danish oil and polyurethane.

Questions, comments, suggestions and the like are much appreciated as this is my first legit piece of furniture. Made plenty of mistakes but I learned a lot. If only I had the tools to make things perfectly square

Way to take a simple form and add a lot of interest. The top is really fun to look at. Now the only problem is no one will want to put their feet up on it cause it looks so nice.

Great looking stool. The red oak pattern draws me in and the fact you didnt use any mechanical fasteners makes it that much sweeter…. Great Job!

I agree with Shannon- It’s too pretty to use as a footstool. Beautiful piece of work.

Thanks y’all. Foot stool was the first practical use I could come up with haha. I really wanted to make it taller but I was confined by the contest rules as to how tall it could be due to the amount of material I had to work with. I like how it turned out and plan on using the concept of the design to make other hopefully more useful pieces.

Have your say...
