This is a set of bedroom furniture (nightstands and dressers) that I’ve been working on for the past several months. I used several new techniques that I hadn’t done before in the construction. Frames are joined with mortise and tenon. Drawers are box jointed. Finish was sprayed using a HVLP sprayer (which is so much easier than brushing).

I do plan on making a bed to match, but that is going to be a bit in the future.

Shaker inspired style, case and outside pieces are of red oak. All of the tops are from a single piece of Honduran Mahogany that I got from my Grandpa after he passed away (it was rather large). The pictures really don’t do the tops justice, the chatoyancy on the wood is really something to look at. Drawer and door pulls are from the other Grandpa. Finished with three coats of General Finishes Arm-R-Seal urethane.

Great looking pieces with those tops being figuratively the icing on the cake. It must be great to see the tops and know where they came from.
