Project Information

The other week a great woodworker I follow up YouTube, Sean, over at SimpleCove channel had posted a video of a project he created which this is a complete copy of, not my design whatsoever. He was kind enough to shoot me over dimensions last week so I went for it. One of my first projects focusing more on hand tool work and I had a great time with it. Never made a box before, nothing like this at least. Also a fun time just working on a very manageable project that doesn't overwhelm your space. The lid is what really drew me into his project and I was excited to try it out. I haven't decided on the pull yet for the box, might go with his style, but I had another version on a chisel box I saw that I'm thinking I'll go with. Can't remember who posted it, but I liked the design and the look.

This box was made with the same intent as the one he created, storing shoe shine products. I'm sending this one to my good friend who's expecting his first child, a boy.

Thanks for checking it out. Here's the link to his video and channel.

How much Ambrosia did you sort through to get that ate up top, fabulous…... The Maple and Walnut are always a nice pair but that Ambrosia is magical with it here. Nice looking box.

Thanks for the link to the video, The top makes more sense there, I didn't quite appreciate the shaping, but after seeing the vid I can make it out on your box. He makes nice stuff, probably will spend a few minutes there. I like that he pretty much showed you what you needed without boring you toi tears with his thoughts on global warming, or something.

Thanks for posting, made for a very enjoyable lunchtime.

Thanks, guys!

Steve, I really like that top too and it took some time to locate it. Here's a shot of the top after being buffed out…

I have about 300 bd/ft of Ambrosia Maple right now, and some of it is pretty wild, but it's hard to find a piece that is side to side striated like that, it's literally full up. Very nice board, and you made it shine.

What is that about 12" wide?
