Custom composer's desk

This is a custom desk for a composer/music producer (it’s now installed – I’ll post a studio picture later).

The angled space in the middle is for a large touchscreen, and there are standard 19” equipment racks on either side. It has two sliding shelves: the bottom one is for a keyboard controller, the shallow top one with the wrist rest is a desktop for the keyboard/mouse and odd papers.

Normally I don’t like to have the keyboard shelf slide – you have to slide your chair back when it’s out, changing the distance from your monitor(s) and speakers. But this desktop had to be shallow for my client to be close to the touchscreen, so it couldn’t slide in far enough to reveal the knobs and buttons on the top of the keyboard.

The close-up shows the maple slides I made. From now on I’m going to make these rather than using the heavy-duty slides I used to use (Knape & Vogt 8900). Much cooler.

As I wrote in another post, after this I feel like I can handle anything. This one looks simple, but it involved a billion decisions.

I truly enjoyed it!

Nice work.
