This style board has been on my “to do” list for awhile now. There are various methods to achieving the chaotic look. I used the method similar to MTM wood, making a slight angled cut, then creating slices. The more slices, the more chaotic it becomes. You loose a lot of material with a project like this. I lost 3” from the original glue up. 1/8” for blade kerf so I lost 1” for each of the 3 board cuts I made for the total of 3”. I got the idea to create an end grain border to get the board back to a larger dimension. I made the border as one solid piece, then sliced it (1 1/2” wide) in half to the overall length required. My 10-20 Jet drum sander was helpful here, just wish I had one larger. The overall dimensions of the finished board is 13” x 11”. Sanded to 240 then treated with several coast of mineral oil and a beeswax/mineral oil mix. Rubber feet screwed to the bottom with stainless steel screws. I like these, even as time consuming as they are and will probably make more. After thought – wished I had moved that one edge piece with all the walnut away from the border.

Thanks for looking

This is a very nice board and I love the random pattern and the colors.
