Grandson, Cooper discovered the joys of fishing and has several rods and no place to store them safely. He loves to visit and share a day in the woodshop with me so we decided to make a rod rack. He designed the rod holder, measured, cut some of the easier cuts, glued, clamped and painted this work of art.
A funny story I have to share. We needed to drill a total of 10 holes 4-1/2 inches apart. I gave Cooper (Grandson) the tape measure and awl and told him to figure out where to drill the holes. He looked at me and said how, I replied performing math to position the hole correctly. His reply “It’s summer vacation, I don’t have to do math on summer vacation”! After a good belly laugh from me I explained the importance of math and how it is performed all the time everyday thousands and thousands of time! Reluctantly he started adding 4-1/2” + 4-1/2” first on a piece of paper then in his head until he had located all the hole positions.
When it came time to paint I grabbed my filter masks for us to use. At first Cooper was not thrilled at wearing one until I sprayed a bit and he smelled the fumes. The mask went on quit quickly.
Had a great day with Cooper hope there are many more in our future.
Cooper’s sister Allison is a very good artist and I have a airbrush station set up in the shop. Next visit by Allison we will start her learning process on how to airbrush!!!

Sorry for the sideways pictures not sure why!?

Cool project.
