I recently moved house and needed a bench for my lathe, the Record bench retails at £180 and it doesn’t have any storage underneath. Knowing I needed to save money for the house renovation I made this bench for a cost of £50. It’s made from 18mm hardwood veneer plywood which I glued and screwed together for double thickness as I wanted a very heavy and stable bench, and to smarten the looks up I faced all edges with some 8mm strips of oak faces from a previous job. Fitting the shelves was awkward and I found turning the bench upside down and resting them in from that way was much easier, as the floor is dead level this proved to be the easiest way to get the shelves level and supported while I screwed them in

Finished the top and oak with friction polish, it’s ended up much nicer than I anticipated especially when I set the budget at £50/65$

I’ve never seen a record lathe. The whole setup looks very nice.

I like the angled legs, really enhances the appearance

Good looking, solid, function base that looks so much nicer than just a plain square bench. Lots of storage too.
