Ohhhhhh, scraps ! I shouldn’t keep so many.
This started out as 2 offcuts, each about 6×35 x .6 cm, but Very Interesting grain.
Photos 1 and 2 are of different corners, showing the patterns in the surian cedar.

Thin stuff ! → had to use a liner. Yellow Cedar was handy.
There was only enough surian for the 4 sides, had to find some more
for the lid.
Added little beads of the yellow cedar (to the design, that is).
Somehow it became more & more work: Added some silky oak,
because it has a similar color to the cedar.
Just yellow & 2 oranges was not quite right → added beads of some dark-red scrap.
Made the parts angled, this is where a LOT of time went.
( by the way, it is not uneven. pic 3 lies ).
Confession: there are some extra pieces on the inside of those angled lid parts,
to hold it together better.

So now, do you think anyone will notice the original crazy grain ?

I don’t see any crazy grain but I do see some beautiful silky oak – nice box, really like the lid rest.

Excellent job, the added details really make your box stand out. I especially like the top, the way you joined the different woods together to form the angles. The color of the woods adds to the feel of the box too, makes you want to pick it up and hold it. Great design, shows true craftsmanship. Thanks for inspiring

A very interesting build structurally wise, even more interesting is where you got the timbers in Brisbane?
