This was a recent AF Emblem shadow box. Rather than use different species of wood to create the contrast, I taped face of each of the lighter colored pieces. Then I stained the remainder (to include the chamfers between the lighter colored pieces) dark. Then everything is finished with 4 coats of hand-rubbed tung oil. Because required 23 pieces each individually cut and many of them chamfered, this is going to be the last one exactly like this I do. However, I have already created a new one similar to this using inlay which allows me to construct it in half the time. It’ll be my next post.

I have to say you have some of the most beautiful boxes I have ever seen. I retired in 07 myself and have a Pentagon shaped box. If I had seen some of these then I would have wanted one. If you dont have a website to sell these little works of art you should. They are truely a tribute to their owners time and masterfully created. Aim High – Fly, Fight, Win!
