This is an artist’s easel I made for my god daughter’s birthday. (Don’t tell her because I haven’t delivered it yet!)

Thank you to Marc Spagnuolo ( for the idea – this was his 2013 woodworkers fighting cancer build. There’s an excellent video on his website detailing the build with links to the free plans. Also thank you to Wood Magazine for donating the plans for this project.

There’s a blackboard on one side and a dry erase board on the other. A roll of paper is mounted in the center and pulls through to cover one side of the easel for drawing with crayons etc. (I haven’t mounted the retaining clips for the paper yet, but they hold it in place over the dry erase board.)

The project is made from cherry. I used Charles Neil’s Blotch Control before 3 coats of General Finishes Arm-R-Seal. The Charles Neil Blotch Control is an amazing product and the finish came out nice and even.

Thanks for looking!
