In an effort to try and offset the cost of my addiction….woodworking….I accidentally started an amateur woodworking business. A craigslist add and a FB page later I can’t keep people from asking for quotes and think I will never run out of small projects to build for folks in my area. Since I don’t know how to do anything the easy way my first request was from an old work buddy (Active Duty Navy) and he didn’t want a small coffee table, or end tables, or maybe even a dining table or bench set. He wanted an island and storage bench for his cramped kitchen. This is the story and here are some pics…..I know, I need a better camera.

Blake Poole ran into a space issue at his new home and came up with a clever solution. Some nice sketches from Blake, a visit to the house, and a dozen messages later we had the design right where we wanted it. The island acts as the table for the eat-in kitchen as well as a storage unit any baker would love. Soft close drawers and a storage space for even the largest sheet pans. The top of the table and benches are made of solid walnut while the bases are made from poplar and birch and will be painted in the future. It is an extremely sturdy unit while able to break down into more manageable pieces for moving houses down the road.

Thanks for looking guys.

Came out very good. This is exactly what I am afraid would happen if I ever said yes to such requests. Lot’s of work and then I am not getting my projects done.

These pieces are so nicely done and the storage provided makes them very practical and valuable.
