This is the first project I have posted. It’s really just a mailbox post, but it’s different than one’s I have seen. My wife and I were in the middle of building a new home, and I wound up with an extra 10ft rough sawn western red cedar 12×12, so I made a timber framed mailbox post of sorts. It is truly mortice and tenon and held together with 1”x13” black locust wood pegs. I must say, a chain morticer is a beast of a tool!

Looks great. My first thought was “man that guy is sick of kids hitting his mailbox with bats” lol
I think at my old house I replaced my mail box once a year

If anyone makes the mistake of accidently hitting this mailbox it will be like hitting a tree. ;-) You have done a beautiful job on this project and it’s a real eye catcher. I like it very much. Congratulations and welcome to Lumberjocks.

That mailbox stand looks built to withstand anything. Well done.

Now that’s a TX(cross that out) Indiana-sized mailbox. Should withstand twisters, trucks, teenagers or anything else that comes its way.

Sweet mail box.
I’m jealous of both it and the fact that you have a chain mortiser.

Too appreciate your mailbox; someone has to have had theirs destroyed by -+_)(&^%%^&() incidents!
When i lived in a small ND city the city snow removal truck destroyed mine—it was 2 feet from the road edge! My neighbor had seen it happen and put my mail in my storm door!
They would have paid for it with about 5 hours of paperwork. —I just built a new one and moved it farther from the “HIT ZONE”!
Hopefully yours is around decades from now!

Very impressive work. You’ve made this “everyday” item a truly unique and beautiful piece.

That is a nice looking project.
I believe that is strong enough to survive any drive by baseball bat swings!

Very nice!
JCamp, I had a relative who had a sort of arms race of mailboxes to a kids old jeep. He kept putting up mailboxes, kid kept running them down. Mailbox went from little steel fence post, to 4×4 post to a little masonry structure to finally, a massive reinforced concrete and brick masonry structure with a cast iron door. Unfortunately the kid didn’t take the hint and rammed his old 80’s jeep into it at high speed and it killed him. He felt awful, just wanted his mailbox to stay up, didn’t want to kill the poor kid.
