It’s been a long winter here so I dove into my scraps of spruce and pine. I picked these up from a renovation job I was on and didn’t have the heart to build a large bonfire. Found a piece of purple heart and my glue bottle and put things together. The glue lams sat in my carving shed and finally I decided to cut out some boot blanks.
The wood carved quite easily and the boots came into being.
First two pics of the tall work boot, showed no character to speak of but had a confusing array of grain going in every direction. I had a battle with the wood and decided to carve lumps and curves! I was lucky not to go through the boot walls when I carved the inner wood.
Next two pics is my typical boot blank to which I added some purple heart strips. Interesting piece but not my favourite composition.
Last two pics, entitled ‘Grandma’s Dancer’, is another spruce lamination ,no colour, just plain old blah! I can see Granny doing the ‘two-step’ Yow-za, yow-za, yow-za!!!
