The Hurricane Harvey table

While it’s certainly not the nicest table ever, it will have a special place in our memories. This entry way table was underway when Hurricane Harvey hit last August. Sadly our house flooded, but thankfully we dodged what could have been much worse and everyone was safe. And the lesson was not lost on me—always listen to my wife! I wanted to ride it out, but she convinced me to get out halfway through the storm with our two kids under the age of two, before the house actually flooded.

So finally, 9 months later I got around to finishing it. The legs took some water but remained in good shape.

As you can see from the “before” photo when we had a little less drywall and flooring in the house, it was a nice feeling to finish.

Nothing special – construction grade pine (which has bowed horribly of course). Still need to run a couple pocket hole screws to attach the base and top.

Most of my tools were elevated, but my Craftsman planer was submerged on the floor. Fired right up though!

Nice work, so it took a little longer. Mother Nature works like that sometimes.
