About ten years ago a friend said they wanted to buy a net which was about 150 dollars back then. Being a fresh graduate my first thought was, 150 dollars could buy us a bunch of beer, there must be a better way. So i started thinking back to this episode of New Yankee workshop where he steam bent some wood for maybe a chair and it looked doable so i ventured forward and that became my first wood working project.

I made it i thought pretty big, 22” long hoop and he sent me a picture of a rainbow that was larger than the openning. We started talking and i felt i had come a long way with my skills that i would make him another one.

The design has features from Sierra Nets, Big Blackfoot Nets, Otter Nets and Moby Nets as i like their products the best and looked to them for inspiration.

I steam bent a solid piece of white oak for the main hoop, used some black walnut accents with figured maple and mahogany. Wife is sewing up a bag for it and it should be ready soon. The size is 28” long hoop which is insane i thought for rainbow trout but its what my buddy requested. Overall length is like 67”

Like the extra layer or two of wood on the top of the hoop, adds a nice feature. Good job!
