Here’s my first attempt at building a bandsaw box. I used a log from one of the water oaks in my back yard; it’s about 4.5 inches in diameter. The log also has a little bit of spalting in it. I covered the whole thing with some poly. It turned out rather ugly, but it was a still a fun weekend project. I almost forgot, I used a twig for the knob.

Well, you can always use it to keep the matches near the fireplace, all things considered :)

I love it! Really, it’s so unspoiled, something from a wonderful farytale.
Best thoughts,

That’s one you could definitely leave outside your door with a spare key in it. No one will think to check in that haha
none-the-less, it does look like it was fun to do :) At some point I’ll make one, but I have to get the bandsaw first :P

I am not a fan of natural edged bandsawn boxes, but you’ve done good with this work, congratulations.

Nice job. It’s not ugly. Ugly was the first one I made. I like it.

I was just telling prez at the wood show this weekend that I “LOVE” the bandsaw boxes that are made from (and still look like) a log!!!

I will admit, she ain’t perty, but the execution was beautiful….This is your FIRST ATTEMPT, it is only gonna get better, you did an awesome job, to heck with it, you could hide your poker money in there and robbers might clean out your whole house and take your flat screen and the darn remote, and never touch that box :) I am guilty of producing some boxes I never could explain, and was so happy when I finally sold them, :) so I can relate a little.
Yeah that is my shop kitty crashed out in the background, ain’t she pitiful

Thanks for all the comments, guys! I like the idea of putting something really nice in the box so the robbers won’t steal it. ;-)

Brandon, You did a good job with it. The natural log look is one of my favorite type. Hiding high price stuff in them is one bonus espicially if you can sit them in plain sight.

I really love this. I enjoy making bandsaw boxes and look forward to trying it on small logs like that.
