Or teatime in case you prefer that. After finishing my first serving tray I wanted to incorporate some new things into the next one, so I thought I’d try some simple stylized marquetry and craft some more complex handles.
The frame is cherry, the handles and the veneer on the panel is maple. No idea what veneer the cup is really, since it’s from a cardboard box with all kinds of different pieces in it I got off ebay a while ago.
Glued with hide glue, veneer work was done with that as well.
Finish is walnut oil followed by superblonde shellac on the maple parts and gold orange on the cherry.
Joinery is wedged mortise and tenons. As usual I’m not quite satisfied with plenty of things, but there’s always the next project and I really have to learn to not dwell on things.
Last picture is of a dry-fit of the still unfinished wood. Thanks for looking.

I love it!!!
I’m a giant espresso fan, so I will have to copy this idea at some point!
It’s a brilliant idea.

I like it too! Clean contemporary design, especially the inlay.
