I built this bookcase for me pre-teen daughter, who is an avid reader and book collector.

We spent time together looking at various images and articles on bookcases, finally deciding on a design by Martin J. Milkovits, Quick, Sturdy Bookcase published in Fine Woodworking #194–Nov/Dec 2007.

I had some maple and poplar on hand that I wanted to use, so I suggested that in the end we paint it. She had the final say regarding the color scheme.

The paint and topcoat were sprayed.

Paint is General Finishes milk paint, Patina Green and Snow White.
Finish is General Finishes High Performance Satin topcoat.

I’m hoping that she won’t outgrow the colors too quickly, but if she does, I’m sure her little sister would gladly inherit the bookcase.

Nice sturdy looking bookcase. I saw the color and read the text before color adjusting, glad I did. I had never seen this color green from GF. I thought it was a Federal Blue on drugs, it sure has a lot more POW to it.

Nice build. Thanks for posting.

It is lovely and she will probably have it most if not all of her life. Great Job. I love the color myself.

Have your say...
