So, This week I was commissioned by my wife to make a Sword Rack for our son. He loves his toy swords, but he leaves them all over the house.

I built the whole thing out of a 2×4.

First, I resawed a 2×4 down the long edge using my table saw. I had to saw one side, then flip it over to saw from the other side to get all the way through the 3.5” of the board.

I made a slot pattern out of scrap, and used my old jigsaw to make a pattern. I copied the pattern onto the two new boards, and used my jigsaw to cut out each hook slot. I used my B&D VersaPak Wizard to sand the curves, and add a bevel to the corners (chamfer?)

The spanners are also made from the same 2×4. I used the TS to make the tenons, then I used my combination square and my new chisels to cut the mortises. I made the key pins using the saw on my Leather-man tool, and the afore mentioned Wizard to round them out.

I guess I still need to add some hardware for it to hang on the wall, but for now he’s just got it propped up on his dresser. He had already filled it with swords when I wasn’t looking.

Looks great!

I think I need the sword with the spikey brass knuckles. My three year old could use one of these two. We often have sword fights.
