Ok. This is my submission for the 2018 box swap. It is Walnut and Ash. Very simple design and construction, but I spent a lot of time digging through my lumber pile and planing to find the right figuring and knot pattern that looked right to me. Finished with several coats of linseed oil and varnish. The last picture shows the’extra’I sent along. It is Walnut and White oak and houses a Bluetooth speaker. It was my first attempt at folding box construction. I thoroughly enjoyed participating in the swap. It was very well run by Dave P. Made some new buddies and had lots of fun. But I now realize that if I participate in another swap I will have to step up my game. The other boxes are just incredible! You guys have filled my head with new ideas and possibilities. Thanks to all.

It’s a pretty box, Dave. Simple is good sometimes.

Please add the “2018 box swap” tag. I’ll be searching for them all for a wrap-up post.

Ok Dave, I think I added the tag.

Your box is really nice Dave! I like the ash and walnut combination a lot along with the raised panel lid. I showed it to my wife and she was very impressed with the Bluetooth speaker you built. Nice!

Way to go Dave. I saw this box toward the finishing. I can guarantee he had this idea from the start. What a great finish. He did not tell me of the speaker when we visited. I would have ask a bunch of questions. Very nice work Dave. Keep in touch.

Thanks for the nice comments guys. Vernon, I hadn’t started the speaker box when you visited. Was a last minute thought. Ask any questions you want, I’ll answer if I can.

Dave that is one beautiful box! The wood choice is spot on and the raised panel is just remarkable. I also really like the legs. Yours is another box that gave me some new ideas. Great job!

Dave – great box. Simple clean lines and excellent contrasting woods. I like it. I think this kind of box is as hard to build as any complicated one. There aren’t any embellishments to hide mistakes under or behind. I think it can be more difficult to make a “simple” box because all of the joints, profiles, and faces have to be perfect. Nicely done.
