My guitar teacher has a little cardboard box (from a piece of jewelry or something) that she keeps picks in for students at her lessons, so I thought this to-scale Fender pick-shaped box would be a nice little token of appreciation for putting up with my crossed-up chords!

Thanks to SteveMarin for the video tutorial on bandsaw boxes – gave it a stab with a chunck of cedar fencepost that was lying around. Sanded to 150 and finished with one coat of Danish oil and two coats of paste wax – it is really smoother than the pictures show. It turned out pretty decent for a quickie.

thanks for lookin’

Great idea and well executed. I’m trying to get a sense of the size: can you give a dimension, or a pic with a hand in it or something? I have several guitarists in the family, and it’d be a great gift. I’m thinking, should it fit in a guitar case, or maybe be big enough for a capo?

Nice box and simple. What did she think of it?

Thanks guys -
Tomw – it is about 3.75 inches tip to tail; had to fit on a cross section of a cedar 4×4
Tim – I will know Thursday how she likes it…

I love this box. I made a ‘pick box’ some years ago with a student. We used a pick for a template for the lid handle and even glued the pick to the handle. It turned out beautifully. My student gave it to her father for Christmas, as he was forever loosing his picks.

What a great idea! My son would love this for storing his guitar stuff.

This is a really inspiring thing and surely it would be very useful in storing guitar picks to prevent losing them when not in use.
