This is my first turning project – making a handle for a handmade leather punch.
(My father in laws friend showed me how to use the lathe but he did the work.)
A cabinet maker invited me to his shop, gave me a lesson and let me go for it. It was a blast! Just loved seeing the wood block convert into a shape.
My grandpas chisel was my design guide. ( shown in picture )
I practiced first on a piece of pine & used it as a guide for the purpleheart.
I sanded it down from heavy to fine grit. Next I used the sawdust for the final sanding.
Finally i used a block of wax to finish it off.
The amazing projects you wood turners craft impress me. I would love to get i to wood turning more. It was so much fun.

That turned out great! Now you will like to use the leather punch much better in that you made the handle!!!!!!!!!!!!
You appreciated it more if you make it yourself.
Cheers, Jim
