I saw pictures of this type of project on the internet and thought they would be a great idea for couples getting married. My nephew just got married and another couple of friends are getting married in a couple of weeks. One is Mahogany and Maple (for my nephew and new wife) and the other is Walnut and Maple (for friends). On the Mahogany one I drilled all the way through and added a 1/8th” slice of maple for the bottom, it has a 1” base. For the walnut, I have little black round felt pieces for the bottom of the holes to cover up the the point the forester bit leaves, it has a 3/4” base. I used a 1 1/4” forester bit (largest I have). Each of them has 1/4” aluminum pegs for the swivel lids I glued them in to the lid, they can be removed from the base. I think the aluminum looks pretty cool with the wood. My grandpa got me a couple of the little drum sanders you use either on the drill press or hand held drill – how did I EVER live without those before??? Simple little bit but really handy! After going to buy more sandpaper drums here in KC, finding I can only find all the sizes at Westlake – neither of the big box stores had them in store – and that would be why I like shopping in the smaller stores! I’m sure i could order them on line but when you need it, well, you need it, right? :) I finished them both with 4 coats of wipe on satin poly. Hope they like them!
Thanks for looking!
