Decided to make myself a block plane over the Easter weekend. This one is completely from scratch, the blade came from a saw blade, I cut it out and did some preliminary grinding, then hardened it in my charcoal forge, and tempered it in the oven (had to wait till the wife finished baking cupcakes though)

Even before I did the final sharpening I was able to get a decent shaving with it, and after sharpening, I can get almost see through shavings in hard maple, so I am calling this one a success.
