Burnt bowl

This started out as a normal birch bowl. But after sitting for some time it developed major cracks and would present a problem or a very small bowl if they were turned off. So I took a torch to it and blackened the outside. Finished it with Varathane poly and then turned completed turning inside. I was wanting to have an example of the contrast between the woods and wasn’t concerned about the shape. Just a little bowl to collect pocket change or whatever. It will sit on a white desktop, so was going for contrast there also.

That is so cool !!!!!!!! I may have to burn a chunk of wood just to try my luck. Great job.

I find this piece stunning. The contrast between the blackened wood on the outside and the wood inside is absolutely beautiful. I also like the natural shape. Very well done!

Very cool Al. I’m gonna have to try that.
