It has been awhile since I have posted anything here and this Dodecahedron was a fun build and is made from New Guinea Rosewood. The concept of making the twelve pentagons and fitting each side face with rare earth magnets has been posted on here a few times. I decided to cut the various silhouettes in each face to add some extra interest and inside the assembled unit there is a remote controlled LED lamp that lets you fade in about 8 different colours.
It is a fun project as kids can knock it down and reassemble so it is both functional and tactile.
I made some jigs to help accurately cut the pentagons and also to allow to accurately position the blind holes that house the magnets. My thanks to the original poster on You Tube for this project.
Regards to all

That idea with magnets is very smart. I tried something with football shape, but glued – not turned so good due bad cutting template I soppose or there was just to many pieces so mistakes cumulated at the end.
What so ever, this is great looking scrollsaw project too – inside LED is also awesome feature.

Wow! That’s a tour de force of ingenuity and precision!

Very cool. I think your scroll work is what makes it stand out. Excellent work!

Very cool…I like the duality of function and tactile plus the scroll work and led light…sweet!

That is beautiful, what a unique idea adding the LEDs for added interest!
Those pieces need to be nearly perfect to make a completed dodecahedron, and you did it!
Like it, added to my faves!
