Oak recycled pallet mallet

Hi guys
Here is a recycled oak pallet piece i used for a mallet ( I needed 10 mallets for a leatherwork class for scouts).
The hickory handle is recycled too

And the lacing is recycled as well

Included is a straight line nail hole on the top of the mallet – kinda gives it some character and hails back to its origins …

Used hand tools plus my drill to measure cut and sand. My rasps did the rounding of the edges and a bit of shaping on the handle.

Finished it off with boiled linseed oil – the markings on the one side are black & came out naturally when i added the blo. I wondered if it came from pressure / stress on the wood? The pallet held 500 lb metal coils … it was slightly twisted and i picked this section out as it looked unique.

You can see the one face really got beat and i repaired it with the putty …

The 3 symbols look like trees are the Japanese characters for “mori” or grove. Fun decoration
