A funicular is actually a conveyance to ferry rail cars up a steep hill. We actually call this the “Furnicular”.
My daughter’s greatest wish one year was a bunk bed (like her sister’s). Upon assembly she realized that her cat couldn’t get to the top bunk. She asked me if I could build a cat stairway. I drew this up and tweaked the design so it could be cut from a single 1/2” 4×8’ birch ply board. Finished with Watch Danish Golden Oak oil finish.
Credit for the name and tweaking the design for safety goes to my good friend and architect Jeff http://www.studio515llc.com.

Emphasis on the “Fun” part of Funicular. Great project!
