Emerging bowl

A neighbor had some olive root burls that he had been saving for many years. He offered to give me some of the wood. I took one to see how it would work. The last picture shows the starting point for the bowl. Because the wood had so much character, I felt that a simple bowl would not show it. So I left a major portion of it undone with just showing the rim and the interior of what the bowl would look like if completed. It was a real treat to turn the wood as it was like turning butter almost.

That’s a really interesting looking bowl Al, should be great on your coffee table.
