Computer Desk

Here’s my new computer desk that I desperately needed to make because I was tired of my old walmart-quality desk that was reeeally small. The top is now over 5ft x 2ft giving me plenty of room to work. It’s only 3/4” thick but I banded it with solid wood to stiffen it and give the illusion that it’s thicker than it really is. I loosely modeled it after a Pottery Barn desk that I liked.

It’s made mostly from red oak plywood and colored with an espresso water-based stain and java gel stain. I custom sized the computer tower so that it allows plenty of air circulation for the fans. I also put all the surge protectors and wires hidden behind the lower cabinet door which are on inset hinges. All the drawers are on full extension slides.

I have that same case for a computer I built at work. Now you need to make some channels to hide all those unsightly cables. :-)

I agree that you should do something about those cables. I am known to be extremely picky about that when it comes to computers, though. If you can spot a cable in my desktop that isn’t attached to a component within an inch or so then I’m probably in the process of re-doing something lol

The desk looks fantastic! I’ve been wanting to replace mine desperately as well. It’s not small, but it’s just a cheap veneered particle board… parts of the veneer are coming off, so I have a duct tape front edge … not anywhere near as good looking as this!
