Duck Decoy Stand

This is a bit of a lark – a Pintail Duck, actually – for me: my first, ever, decoy stand, and the first of three for a friend.

I have difficulty building small things; and when I was asked to design and build them, I wanted to do them, but was concerned about having enough of a project to get creative. I now have a better appreciation for individuals who do this craft (tipping my hat, as I say this).

My research was unsuccessful in finding a design I wanted to modify, or just outright steal – most designs run across the breath of the decoy, rather than along its length; also, I wasn’t sure how to support the decoy.

The stand is Walnut, and finished with a clear (Deft) stain, a single coat, that’s not quite dry in the pictures. The male stand is approximately 10” long, by 4” (nominal); the female stand is about 9” x 3”. The stands’ height is about 4” – just enough front & rear to allow the bottom of the decoy to rest clear of the base.

If I can provide any additional information, please let me know.

Everyone, Do Take Care.

I almost feel bad posting it – the design is what interests me, and my friend was over-the-top, for some reason, when he saw it.

I agree with your friend. It’s perfect and a great choice of wood.
