Black Walnut Stair Overhaul

Full 2 flights of concrete stairs and landings covered in black walnut replacing the original laminate flooring, the construction was so uneven that every piece had to be made out of a template and fitted to the original stair step, wall, and adjacent tile floor. A couple of side shelves built as torsion boxes were added as the original layout had very large stair steps instead. Looking back, I can tell that building a new stairway would have been a lot easier but oh well…...happy customer.

Happy customer indeed—that walnut is beautiful! The most beautiful staircase I’ve seen!

That’s a beautiful job. You did that with the carpet there?

Yeap, it is actually a tiled floor, no way to move that around

Thank you Dean, it was actually all from the same tree, a huge local black walnut cut back in 2014 and air dried since.

We made these from scratch and we were pretty proud of them. Yours are gorgeous and simply perfect. I just love the Walnut against the white wall and round windows…

Absolutely beautiful job

Stair replacement on existing is a real PITA and you must have great patience to fit each and every tread and riser individually Well done

the walnut is outstanding

Magnificent! The walnut is gorgeous, I had no idea that species grew so far south. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the kind comments, Leafherder: yes, black walnut grows around here and usually shows the colors and grain you see on this staircase, this region, right in the middle of whats known as a mist forest houses species as black walnut, spanish cedar, sweetgum, beech, and sicamore.

One tree, air dried, king of cabinet woods, and fine craftsmanship. I hope you charged a fortune for those stairs! They certainly look worth it.
