When the Grand kids come to visit, its fun to send them home with something. i can’t help but chuckle when they climb into the car to head back home holding a whistle. i wonder how much their parents appreciate it.
These were fun and easy to make. I drilled out the hole… cut the window with the band saw. My youngest daughter would fit the fipple in and adjust it for the maximum sound. i would then shape them on the lathe followed by a few coats of food grade finish.

that’s a lot of whistling… glad you’re not my neighbor (haha).
I’d be giving them away as they were heading for the car and ride home.

Great looking noise maker for a kid. I have a grandson that would love one of those.

What size hole did you use and does the hole go all the way thru the body?

I assume that the angled hole that makes it a whistle is called the “fipple”??
Sounds like an interesting day adjusting your fipple. ... or … Go to your room and adjust your fipple. ... The job ain’t done till the fipple is adjusted … Oh how fun.

Just gives me the idea to get my 9 month old daughter a whistle… I’m sure my wife would just LOVE that idea. hehe

I have 13 Grand kids. I was surprised at how many terms there were for Whistles. i drilled a 5/8” hole into the block (not all the way through it). cut the window with the band saw (the slanted cut that revels the drilled chamber. i used a 5/8” dowel for the fipple, sanding a slight flat side to it to blow air into the whistle with. My daughter then would slid the dowel (fipple) in and test where the best sound was. mark it and then supper-glue it in place. i would cut off the extra and then put it in the Lathe to shape…. pretty easy project

Your grand kits must live very far away from you or you want to get back at your kids for some reason.

Nice work!!!!

that is awesome – no pictures to share but I have been making slide whistles lately. I don’t have grand kids yet but I am practicing for the future – hehehe – planning my payback for my kids :-)
