A buddy of mine had an unused cabinet space in his RV…....and he and his wife like to drink wine… they asked me to design a wine rack that would fit in the unused cabinet space. They plan to take out the bottles when they are on the road with it.

In the 80’s, I made some wine racks as gifts and kept two of them for my own use. I took this basic design and modified it for this application.

To save red oak, I glued a piece of sacrificial pine to the red oak, then drilled the 8 holes with a big 3.5” Forstner bit, which went fine. When I took the piece to the table saw to rip the red oak to its final width, the little connecting pieces broke out and bounced off my stomach! I stopped the saw, and put a strip of blue masking tape over the connecting area, as shown in the picture above…........and that stopped the small connecting pieces from flying off the saw. I did not expect that problem.

I uploaded the design to the sketchup warehouse. This basic design can be modified to fit about any application (longer, shorter, taller, etc).

The rack is made from 3/4” thick red oak with 3/8” wide mortise and tenons on the ends.
