I love wood working and I tend to make what we need around the house. My last project was a simple shoe rack to fit between the wall and the window that one can sit on while putting on your shoes. Above it will go a cupboard for scarves, mittens and hats. It is made of red Oak and stained Java. This was a simple project so it was not planned as it should have been and the simple mistakes made were easily remedied – but Gee so avoidable.

All that said this was fun because I am still just getting back into this. Functionally and Appearance wise I am very happy with this project.

The fun part is the forgiveness provided by some of the products I used. I used a gel stain from General Finnish and that was a pleasure to use. Then I used a new product at least to me Helmsman indoor / out door Spar urethane. This product could be sanded between coats in about an hour, and resprayed. The finish came out pretty smooth and pleasant to the touch. The forgiveness came where a little spot on the bottom was missed during the staining process. I was able to dab some gel stain on and just sprayed over it right away. It was truly on the bottom of the legs the seat on the floor so a good place to see how it will go. Dried in no time and as hard a surface as any where else. This Spar urethane is a great product at least for me. This whole project was covered with less than one can.

I am sorry some pictures turn out sideways. They are not like that in my viewer. This was a great project for keeping it simple and having a wonderful product to add to my collection of hand made furniture.

Very Nice Indeed! That is excellent Spar Varnish! Used it many times.
