My first attempt at milling a log A friend gave me a log from the forest he owns. It was about 8” in diameter but was still to large for my bandsaw without some work. I scored the log with a hand held circular saw then whacked it flat with a hatchet. With one side somewhat flat I ripped the rest of the log into planks and stored them in the floor joist of my basement shop for several months. I used my incra jig to cut the box joints.

Jerry, nice job on your box. That is some hard-won cherry, and it looks great. I like the rounded edges and the attached top. The corner joints are tight and well done. I am sure the cherry will color more deeply as the years pass. Keep boxing and keep posting.
