used aluminum square tubing and cut the channel with a fine tooth blade, using carriage bolts or T-bolts for a toilet.
I spaced these out about 14 inches, can add more channels if needed.
this works great.

how much force do you think you can put in that t-track? I would like to put some in my workbench like that but i will be doing some heavy work with it, so it needs to be quite strong.

using the toilet bolts you would be able to create more force, they have a broader head.

but it is definitely enough to hold the piece from moving, even with a HD belt sander
