Cherry Sideboard

After many years of putting off my wife, I finally moved the sideboard she had been wanting to the top of my build list. Made of cherry and cherry ply with pre-finished maple for the inside carcass and drawer bottoms. The drawers are poplar and the accent wood is wenge. The craftsman design complements our dining table/chair set and is sized per the boss’s direction to store whatever she has in mind. First time design/build with a sideboard but happy with the results.

Very nice work!! The wenge looks great as a highlight on the door panels and the back.

really beautiful! I like the design and execution. Really nice dovetails on the carcass joinery. Too bad nobody can see them!

Very nice work on the sideboard! The wenge accents remind me of the “wedge and strap” inlay on my profile pic. I used them on an entertainment center / sideboard a few years back, and really like the idea of contrasting wood on the backsplash. Kudos to you on a job well done.

This is a wonderful piece and so nicely done. The wood is so nice and the sideboard shows a lot of craftsmanship.

@pintodelux – good catch! I used our entertainment center during the design process with the client (my wife). She didn’t want the corbels and I couldn’t figure a way to insert that divider feature into the design. But they are similar – my design was necessarily a bit larger and (I think) and more contemporary-ish than the true arts/craft’s design that your entertainment center hits on the head. I’ve used the cherry wenge combination before and I really like that combination of woods and a “softening” of the traditional arts/crafts design features. I think it almost adds a slightly Asian feel to the design. Anyway, thanks for the inspiration!
