Entertainment center constructed of barn wood – fir I believe – obtained from a Montana neighbor of ours who has a number of very old barns on their property. The center panel is rusty corrugated steel from the same neighbor. Side panels are hand cut mortise-and-tenon but I also used simpler joining techniques like screws and plugs and metal brackets.
This barn wood is very touchy to finish – just about anything, including plain old polyurethane really darkens it. So I used Zinnser’s dewaxed shellac sanding sealer then amber shellac over that.
