One more Keepsake Box. Made it for my niece for Christmas. Walnut and bird’s eye maple. I went a different direction on the handle shape this time. I am happy that this time you can see the finger joints as opposed the other two I made out of Wenge

Eric, this has a nice look and is well constructed. I would have liked to see the inside of the box. I take it that there is a lift-off lid? Walnut and maple are a good combination. The curves really add to the look. How is it finished? Is there some story behind the box and why you made it? Keep boxing and keep posting.

That’s a good looking box, Eric. The asymmetric handle is a unique touch.

Very nice. I like the contrasting woods, a great choice.

Thanks guys, and Happy holidays!

I have already wrapped it, but it’s not my design, it is a project from WoodSmith magazine that a few of us have done, and posted before. I finish mine in Watco Danish Oil – Natural. I saw the project last year and loved it, made them for my wife and daughter, and this year I decided to make one for my niece for Christmas.

They are a lot of fun to make, and get easier the more you do, like anything else :) They give you the opportunity to mix a lot of different species, and because they are small, you could use exotic woods without spending a fortune.

If you are interested, The guys below have made them and have posted more detailed pictures
