Coin Cabinet for Dad for Chirstmas here is some of the Project details.

Cabinet will hold 144 Silver Dollars and 140 half dollars with trays. This still leaves the top area and large drawer for additional storage.

It took 3 good 6’ x 12” walnut boards to make the box after cut out of the drawers and sides plus the bottom which is 3/4” thick. Also the make up of the front panel was cross cut of a select board for the book match.
The sides are ¾” solid with box depth being little less than 16” and overall height is 14” and 10.5” width.

The front of the drawers was done with a large grain pattern of the Missouri walnut which was cut so the grain could be book matched on each side. Then pieces were joined together with another back panel.

Front Panel was trimmed with Purple heart hardwood so match up to main box was exact plus it added some needed detail. Also back splines of Purple heart were added for each corner of cabinet for strength..

Each drawer has a coin knob – 6 having buffalo nickel knobs and the bottom drawer using a silver dollar knob.

It was decided to install walnut legs on the cabinet so it could be used on table top or sitting in a room. Each leg is 12” and would place the cabinet high enough for easy access.
Each leg was trimmed and tapered on each side (4 sided taper) then each leg was fluted on 3 side.
I used T-Nuts so they can be easily removed to place cabinet on a table.

To seal the cabinet inside and out General finish Arm R Seal was used which is a thin Oil and Urethane finish. Was applied in 5 thin coats first coat brought natural color of wood out. No color stain was used on cabinet at all.
