A friend gave me some oak burl from a tree that died in his yard so I decided to make him a memento. I added some manzanita from my yard. Really like the way they complement each other. It’s not real easy to find usable manzanita without cracks but it’s one of the hardest woods I’ve worked with. The oak burl has a mind of it’s own and itself very hard. You can’t just cut it- you have to sneak up on it. – enjoy

The result sure turned out pretty. Your friend should thoroughly enjoy the memento.

Beautiful oriental style – I like those corners and top handle.

Thanks Drew and majuvla.
Interesting comment. I wasn’t trying to make it look oriental but I guess it does favor that style.
I was intending to use a piece of deer antler for the handle but at the last minute I didn’t like the look so I just made one.

That’s a beautiful box—love that burl! I’ll bet he really appreciates it!
