Surfing the projects gallery from time to time has inspired me to try my hand at pen turning. I’ve done maybe a dozen pens, giving them away as gifts if the finish didn’t turn out too questionable. These are the first intentional sit-down ‘batch’. which has turned out great. Two are Coast Live Oak, and two are Acacia, all finished with CA glue. The lumber is sourced from a buddy’s back yard after a storm took down a couple poor trees. I’m astounded at how many facebook friends and family now want me to make pens for them. Still have a lot of learning to do before I can make them flawlessly each time.
Thanks for looking, and thanks for the inspiration fellow Lumberjocks!

nice work I just got some kits and will be making some myself for the holidays.ill give away a few and hopefully sell some.people just don’t seem willing to pay more than 30 bucks which makes it hard to do more than break even.but there fun to make and it pays for the hobby.i like the ca glue finish that’s what I mostly use now myself.keep turning and have fun with it.

Neat job!
Nothing beats a good BOOMBY (Branch Out Of My Back Yard).
Just watch it… pen turning can become quite addictive… and… costly if you keep giving them away… especially if you progress to the more expensive kits.

These look beautiful. The white in the wood is amazing. I have a buddy whose dad has been making pens and giving them away as well. Have you a son in the AF stationed in Wyoming? lol
