I built this folding privacy screen for my daughter and son-in-law. Each panel is approximately 24 inches wide by 66 inches in height.

I built four panels. However, as I was nearing completion, I began to get a bit concerned about the overall weight – particularly if it was inadvertently tipped over. (The screen will be going to a household that will (hopefully!) have grandchildren in it one day…) I’m still debating whether to add the fourth panel or leave it as is.

The rails and stiles are made of 1/2” plywood, stack laminated and machined into 1” thick members, and the panels are 1/4” hardboard. The frame is joined using pocket screws. Finish is flat white paint.

I had originally considered machining construction lumber to final thickness for the frame, but I thought that plywood would be less susceptible to warping. In hindsight, I think it made for a lot of extra, unnecessary work – and a somewhat heavier product to boot. Live and learn. Still, I’m pleased overall with the result, and I think they will be as well.
