Hi folks,

It has been a busy summer and I have not built anything for a few months.. Glad to be back at it. A co-worker has been asking me for a while to build this design for her. It is constructed with 2” strips of walnut (which is quickly becoming my favourite hardwood) and Hickory in a harringbone pattern. All the peices are glues down to 3/4 piece of birch shop grade plywood. I will be adding 3/4” x 2” walnut strip around the outside to cover the butt ends and plywood. The piece is not completly sanded yet, but I wanted to post it now to get some feedback and help on finishing the top. If look closely, in a couple spots there are tiny tiny gaps at the butt ends. (poor clamping and impatientce on my end) I would like to finish the piece with polyurethane? and wax with an attemp to make it as smooth as possible. I’m wondering what to do with the tiny gaps, they are 1/32 or less, but I think? they will not fill with the polyurethane ?

This is the first piece that I’m completing for a non-family member. I really want the finish on the top to be the best that I can do.

All suggestions and instructions welcome.

That looks great Ben!
Can’t wait to see it finished!
