Double beds in maple to match the nightstands I made a while back. My wife and I like a lot of room, so I made two. They are solid but light (132 lbs. each including 4×1 1/2” angle irons at rails and center beam). Please enjoy.

Last November I milled some maple 8/4 lumber and 3/4 ply planning for:
1. a single 4×8 sheet needs to span two double bed headboards and footboards
2. rails to have quarter sawn faces
3. posts with flat sawn faces
4. stiles with rift sawn book match assemblies
5. minimalist/light look, strong and stiff through geometry and reinforced by 1.5 inch angle irons at rails and center beam
6. inlaid mahogany shadow lines on posts
7. support for memory foam mattress
8. high underneath bed clearance (no box)

Bead lock for loose tenon joints was an adaptation after cutting the rails too short for integrated tenons:

That turned out OK.

All the pieces for headboard and footboard:

Went and blogged about the irons and center beam:

Trimmed the brackets to fit:

Finished with danish oil and renaissance wax:

Realy profesional carpenter work, so beautiful beds. I bet you both will get some good sleep there…or … whatever. :-)
