I haven’t posted in a while but thought I would put up some of the recent clocks that I have put together in the past few months.

Two are from black acacia logs I acquired on craigslist. One from a cookie and the other just from a left over bit after I attempted to slab the log up. Not as easy as it sounded that wood is hard and my chainsaw is not. The other two are from what I believe is cypress that I got from a landscaping company.

The tall acacia hour hand is made from olive wood and the minuet hand is from red-gum eucalyptus. Both came from logs, the olive I got off craigslist and the eucalyptus from the golf course I play at frequently.

The small black acacia one is just a cookie with 3/16 zinc rods inserted for hour indicators, the hour hand is zebra wood and I’m not sure what the minuet hand is but it looked basically the opposite of the zebra wood, black with blonde grain pattern.

The Cypress clocks are cookies from the same log, the hour indicators are wood inlays, 12, 3, 6 and 9 are one type and the others are a different. Not sure what types. some of the butterflies are walnut and some from the same as the wood used for 12, 3 ,6 and 9. I’m not sure what the hands are made from.

Of all the work involved with these, I would say that getting the minuet hand to thickness may be the toughest and most stressful. One small miss touch while doing the final sanding can easily snap the very thin almost paper like hand. But once t is all put together it is so satisfying to see final product.

Hope you enjoy, thanks.
