I went to my parents house this afternoon and took photos of some of my old projects.

  • The first is a huge frame that I built for a painting that my sister painted. It is actually hollow and very light, made with resawn (1/4” thick) kiln-dried doug fir. It is built like a box but looks like solid wood to give it depth.
  • The second project is a small frame I made years ago out of Alder from my grandparent’s property. I think this was the first project I made when I set up my woodshop. The miter reinforcements are Padauk.
  • The third project is a pool cue rack I made long before I every had a woodwhop. It was built with very simple tools, such as a jig saw and hand-held router. It is stained pine.
  • The last project is an Red Oak dart board cabinet I made for my dad for fathers day. It also pre-dates the woodshop. As you can see, it was also before I knew that solid wood shrinks as it dries out. So now it has a pretty big gap between the doors when its closed.

Its kind of neat to look back on past projects and see the progression, as well as learn from some mistakes.

It’s neat that your parents must be so proud of your accomplishments. They have not only kept your old projects, but continue to use them and display them. That must feel good.

Blake, a great tour of some of your older work.

Very nice Blake, it’s always fun to look back at older projects you’ve made.

It is fun to watch yourself grow up. I have several old projects that I would never post.

Good for you,
Steve
